Hy's Steakhouse Toronto

We've recently returned from an action packed few weeks in Toronto! Here are some of the first images from one of the shoots. We were commissioned to capture architectural interior and lifestyle imagery of Hy's Steakhouse. The restaurant was recently renovated but retains it's old school steakhouse feel!

Plaza Premium Lounge

We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to photograph a newly remodelled Plaza Premium Lounge at Vancouver International Airport. On this fun shoot we captured architectural images of the new warm and inviting interior design along with some food photography of some of their signature dishes. Ki Modern Japanese Calgary

A while back we had a wonderful time photographing architectural images, food and lifestyle images for Ki Japanese in Vancouver. We were honoured when we were asked to fly to Calgary and do the same for the Ki Restaurant there. The beautiful interior design of the space made the architectural images of the restaurant a joy. The staff were friendly and helpful and made for a great atmosphere as we photographed lifestyle imagery.

Behind The Scenes at The Keg Steakhouse Photoshoot

We recently had the great privilege to spend a week in Toronto photographing lifestyle, architectural and food imagery for the amazing people at The Keg Steakhouse. It was hectic week but with the assistance of a great crew of people from KBS+P, The Keg, Food Stylist Heather Shaw, Hair and Makeup Stylist Vicki Millar, Assistants Christin Buijs, Peter Olson and PA Deanna Flinn, the week was huge success! It's always great to see our work in print! On a recent coffee break during another shoot we came across our food photography work for the great folks at The Keg Steakhouse and KBS+P in the Globe and Mail.

Eggs Benny at Denny's

I was a get together recently amongst friends when we discovered one of my photos had influenced a friend's breakfast choice without him knowing it was my work!

From Roland: "Melissa and I were at a Denny's Restaurant in Vancouver one morning for breakfast. I was feeling a little greasy that morning, so upon opening the menu I was glad to come across a great photo of what struck me as a "healthy" benny, with it's juicy tomatoes, onions and chilis. It was the Salsa Sensation, and boy did it look like the ticket! I ordered it up along with a coffee and man was I satisfied!

"It wasn't until several weeks later, when we discussed Steve's recent food photography work that we realized that it was his work that had influenced my choice of breakfast that morning!"

Pink Salt for Maclean's

We had the privilege of doing a fun shoot for a new concept restaurant The Mac Shack! The Mac and Cheese you remember has been reinvented with blue cheese, sirloin steak and lobster  but still stays true to what makes this dish so great!

Ki Restaurant Vancouver

It has been a busy month with a great mix of food and architectural photography. We recently had the privilege to photograph the new Ki Restaurant at the Shangri-La Vancouver Hotel. The highlight of the shoot was working with renowned raw bar chef Yoshi Tabo. It was a joy to watch the preparation and the plates he created were stunning! Stay tuned for the finished images!

We had the great opportunity to head back to The Shangri-La Vancouver and photograph some more of the hotel's spaces! There were stunning compositions everywhere we pointed the camera in the stunning interior of this luxury hotel!

Araxi Restaurant Whistler

Just before the holidays we had the pleasure of photographing the updated interior of Araxi Restaurant in Whistler. I have photographed Araxi many times over the past five years and it is wonderful to see the constant changes and improvements. I guess that's why the restaurant is constantly winning awards for top restaurant in Whistler!

The Shore Club Ottawa

We recently had the privilege of shooting a brand new Shore Club Restaurant in Canada's capital, Ottawa! Arriving a few days before the grand opening, the excitement of everyone involved was quite apparent. Under the art direction of Lynne Davis of Baby Robot and shooting in amongst the buzz of activity, we captured the art deco inspired interior.

Vancouver Magazine 2010 Restaurant Awards

Vancouver Magazine annual Restaurant Awards winners were revealed yesterday and congratulations are in order for our long-time clients Top Table Restaurant Group!

Blue Water Cafe + Raw Bar won Restaurant of the Year! One of the Vancouver Magazine judges calls: “a dining experience that appeals to almost everyone, from serious foodies to suburbanites out for a special night.”

Heading up the kitchen at Blue Water is Executive Chef Frank Pabst who also won for Chef of the Year! “He combines West Coast ingredients, Asian flavours, and classical approaches with a sure and delicate hand,” said one judge. “It’s time for this unsung hero to step into the spotlight.”

Further north, Araxi wins top spot for Restaurants in Whistler. Chef James Walt "tucks just-plucked taters alongside superb Pemberton beef, transmuting local ingredients into Gold."

Food Images Two Ways

I recently photographed some new food images at CinCin for longtime client Top Table Restaurants. The beautiful dishes, prepared by Chef de Cuisine Todd Howard, were photographed two ways. Once on the standard white table cloth background, where the focus is on the dish. And once again against the background of the open kitchen where the images give a sense of the feeling and atmosphere of the restaurant.
