The Shore Club Ottawa
We recently had the privilege of shooting a brand new Shore Club Restaurant in Canada's capital, Ottawa! Arriving a few days before the grand opening, the excitement of everyone involved was quite apparent. Under the art direction of Lynne Davis of Baby Robot and shooting in amongst the buzz of activity, we captured the art deco inspired interior.

Sunny Days!
With Vancouver currently under a blanket of snow, I felt it would be a perfect time to share some work from a month or so ago! Shot under sunny skies for a developer, some neighborhood and lifestyle photos for a new condo development in the lower mainland. Hard to believe it was only a few weeks ago!

Coast Medical Clinic
We recently had the pleasure of photographing the beautiful new Coast Medical Clinic in downtown Vancouver. Designed by Karin Bohne of Moeski Consulting Inc, the space is light, fresh and airy. Eco-friendly features were incorporated into the design and include: recycled glass tile, no-VOC paints and cork floors. The project and our images are also featured in Azure Magazine here. We also made a quick behind the scenes video of Karin discussing her design!

The Shore Club
It has been a busy month working on photography projects for The Shore Club Restaurant. Working with Art Director Lynne Davis of BabyRobot we photographed food, space and lifestyle imagery in Vancouver and the new location in Ottawa. An exciting addition to this project was our first foray into video! The videos and still images from the Vancouver restaurant may be viewed on The Shore Club's stunning new website HERE. Stay tuned for the Ottawa highlights!

Shooting in Shangri-La
We were exceptionally lucky last week to photograph at Market by Jean G-Georges at The Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver. The patio is a stunning oasis in the middle of a hectic downtown!
Here's a behind the scenes shot of the models as they walked for the 100th time towards the entrance. So many great angles to shoot from, hopefully we'll be back to capture them all!

Drinks (and photography) at Fairmont Chateau Whistler
I had the great opportunity to photograph some images for The Fairmont Chateau Whistler last week. It was one of those shoots where everything went perfectly smooth. No lighting glitches, talent was a natural, and a happy client!

Vancouver Magazine 2010 Restaurant Awards
Vancouver Magazine annual Restaurant Awards winners were revealed yesterday and congratulations are in order for our long-time clients Top Table Restaurant Group!
Blue Water Cafe + Raw Bar won Restaurant of the Year! One of the Vancouver Magazine judges calls: “a dining experience that appeals to almost everyone, from serious foodies to suburbanites out for a special night.”
Heading up the kitchen at Blue Water is Executive Chef Frank Pabst who also won for Chef of the Year! “He combines West Coast ingredients, Asian flavours, and classical approaches with a sure and delicate hand,” said one judge. “It’s time for this unsung hero to step into the spotlight.”
Further north, Araxi wins top spot for Restaurants in Whistler. Chef James Walt "tucks just-plucked taters alongside superb Pemberton beef, transmuting local ingredients into Gold."

Food Images Two Ways
I recently photographed some new food images at CinCin for longtime client Top Table Restaurants. The beautiful dishes, prepared by Chef de Cuisine Todd Howard, were photographed two ways. Once on the standard white table cloth background, where the focus is on the dish. And once again against the background of the open kitchen where the images give a sense of the feeling and atmosphere of the restaurant.

Alberta Pavilion
It's a rare opportunity to set up a ladder and tripod in the middle of the street at Robson and Beatty in downtown Vancouver to photograph a building. But it is exactly what I got to do during Vancouver's 2010 Olympic Games. This shoot of the Alberta Pavilion for Capsule Designs, Brand Live and the Government of Alberta went off without a hitch amongst the friendly and extremely courteous crowds of proud Canadians!

Cibinel Architects Vancouver 2010 Olympics
In February I was lucky enough to photograph a couple of Provincial Pavilions during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. This one, CentrePlace Manitoba, was designed by Cibinel Architects. Featured in Canadian Architect magazine, it stands out amongst a sea of bland white tents.

Stunning Architectural CG Short Film
The Third & The Seventh from Alex Roman on Vimeo.
Set aside some time a watch this stunning film by Alex Roman. This computer generated animated piece that "tries to illustrate architecture art across a photographic point of view where main subjects are already-built spaces. Sometimes in an abstract way. Sometimes surreal." Watch it full screen in HD, you won't be disappointed!Alex Roman
